Hey, welcome to the staff page.

Believe it or not we're really just ordinary people who have struggles in life just like anybody else. However, we are really passionate about continuing the movement that Jesus started some 2000 years ago and we're even more excited about living into this mystery with you. If we can ever help you in any way, or if you just want to get together and chat or grab a cup o' joe, we'd love to make it happen. So drop us an e-mail and we hope to see you soon.

"They shall be like trees planted by streams of living water..."  This is my daily prayer, adapted from Psalm 1, which captures my deepest desire for each person in the Hope community.  I painted my study shades of green to help us remember this prayer and to trust that God's business is often one of slow growth formation.  I need this reminder daily. Maturity doesn't happen over night.  And God does the growing, not us.  As Hopes Dean of the Chapel, the best I can do is tend and keep the soil conditions for mature gospel growth.  It is experiencing this growth that gives me hope.  It is inspiring to be in the presence of a generation of women and men who sink roots deep into the dark soil of the gospel, even as they spiral upwards towards the light of Christ.  It is in this vision that together, as a community of Hope, we will be like a mature forest, growing in the symbiotic mystery of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.

I am really passionate about working with college students. Their willingness to dream and risk gives me great hope for the future. However, what gives me even greater hope is a belief in a God who cares deeply about each one of us and our world. I love exploring how this all plays out in real life. If you are interested in talking about dreams, future, God, and life, I'm buying the coffee!

"Wherever you are, be all there" (Jim Elliot). I try to live fully present in every moment, conversation and relationship...which, depending on the moment, can be easier said than done! I desire to draw people into the present and into relationship with one another and the world because I believe that's where we find God: in the everyday-nitty-gritty-seemingly-mundane-not-always-so-glamorous parts of life. I am excited to be at Hope this year and look forward to being present with those around me.

The bulk of my energy and thoughts are spent on music, books and learning, movies, cooking (and eating), friendship and conversation. I don’t get enough opportunity to enjoy mountains, trees, water, and the open sky, but those things are exciting to me too. My wife, Susanna, and I can also be pretty goofy and really enjoy laughing. Underneath all these things is an opportunity to experience the creative person of God—his friendship and love. I approach my life like a creative experiment or a piece of art so I can remain in awe of the wonder of God and the life that he has given me in this world. I am extremely thankful to be at Hope College. I can’t believe I work at a place where I get be an artist, a thinker and a worshiper of God all at the same time!

A snapshot of me? Hmmmmmmmmm. When I get myself figured out I’ll let you know. It’s an ongoing process so for now I’ll share that I’m confused about a lot of things, most things actually. There are, however, a few things I’m certain of and they are that I’m created by my heavenly Father, saved by the blood of Jesus and dependent on the work of the Holy Spirit in my life. Beyond that I am blessed to have the world’s best husband who is hungry for God and adores me, and three sons for whom I would die.
My role at Hope ranges from mobilizing and cheering students on in short term missions, praying, counseling and being a light that is not hidden under a bushel basket. In the past six months, I have been overwhelmed with the truth that “what is seen is temporary and what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 Ultimately, I just want to fix my eyes on Jesus.

I love life and enjoy serving and interacting with people. In the journey of life, my two sons are growing “quickly” into adults, and I’m married to my best friend. I'm seeing and understanding more and more about God's incredible love and faithfulness. Proverbs 3:5-6 and Psalm 55:22-23 have taken on a fresh meaning this year as life just doesn't make sense sometimes--to choose to trust in the Lord and lean not on my own understanding.
I’m honored with the job of working with such a great staff and group of college students in Campus Ministries and share the joy of the Lord which truly is my strength with those around me. So five days a week you'll find me at the Keppel House keeping the Campus Ministries staff organized and on task...it's a full time job and I love it!

Paul is brand new to the staff and is excited to be a new part of this community.  He'll be running the technical side of things in Chapels and Gatherings, and will be a great addition to our staff.  Be sure to say hi to Paul and welcome him to campus if you get the chance.

“God blows my mind” just to know that He had this plan for my life as a worship leader/choir director at Hope college is exciting and humbling. I’m very passionate about knowing God through the vehicle of worship. It’s my motto that a “worship song can give you a worship experience, but a lifestyle of worship is what makes the difference in our lives”. My other passion and love is for my family. My wife Michelle and girls Danielle, Gabrielle and my 3 year old grand daughter Kayla. I look forward to another exciting year of worship with all of the worship teams. Get ready choir! It’s going to be an exciting growth experience for all of us.

I'm a recent graduate of Hope College and am sticking around for one more year to help out Josh and Campus Ministries. I'm going to be running the Hope College Concert Series this upcoming year as well as helping Josh with the Chapel recording studio. If you have questions or suggestions about either send me an email, I'd love to talk. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with my life, but I'm really excited to learn more about Christianity, Culture, and Art in this upcoming year alongside of some fantastic people.

I have just retired from a wonderful 33 year career teaching and coaching at the middle school level (Hope Grad - Class of '75). I have been and will continue to be  involved in the Holland High Young Life program as a volunteer leader. The  opportunity  to plug into the campus ministry program as a volunteer is a real privilege.  I've walked along side a number of Hope students over the years, served communion at the Gathering, and hosted recruits for the basketball program.  I love being around college students... to hear their life  stories... to hear about their daily accomplishments or struggles... to encourage them... pray for them and pray with them... to open and discuss the Bible with them...to  explore what being a devoted follower of Christ might look like.
